A kingsnake crossing the ranch road

San Domingo

  • A slender snake banded in dark brown and cream crosses a pale gravel road toward a bank of dry grass and green shrubs.

Probably a California kingsnake (Lampropeltis californiae), a still from a phone video.

In the early afternoon of June 14, 2025, a snake banded in dark brown and cream crossed a gravel ranch road at San Domingo Arbory and slipped into the dry grass on the far bank. From its bold, even bands it is probably a California kingsnake (Lampropeltis californiae); we filmed it on a phone and haven’t confirmed the identification.

Chance sightings like this one add to the picture of what lives at San Domingo. The remote cameras we have since set up, part of our AI-managed remote sensing, now keep a steadier record.
